Forensic Analysis Service Mass Spec Analytical Ltd (MSA) provides a Forensic Analysis Service to HM Customs, UK Police Forces, Scientific Support Units & Defence Parties. MSA has completed thousands of analyses for customers and has provided expert witness testimony in hundreds of court cases. Using Tandem Mass Spectrometry:- Drug Traces MSA analyse a wide range of exhibits including:-
for traces of drugs. MSA has completed studies on all of these types of exhibits and is therefore able to put the amounts and frequencies of traces detected into context. MSA’s scientists can produce reports in the form of statements and provide expert witness testimony at court. Normally, four drugs are targetted simultaneously during the analysis. These are normally Cocaine, Diamorphine (Heroin), THC (Cannabis) & MDMA (Ecstasy). However, if the customer has intelligence concerning other compounds and requires an alternative drug to be looked for, then that may be substituted for one of the above. Remote Sampling MSA also provides a remote sampling service where our scientists take samples from the exhibits at a location determined by the customer. Alternatively MSA supplies Brush Kits for performing remote sampling. This kit consists of a lint brush which MSA recommends for collecting dust samples from vehicles & premises. The brush is tested to make ensure that it is not contaminated with the normal drugs of interest before it is sent from the laboratory. The brush kits can then be used by the customer to collect samples of dust from vehicles or premises, for example. They are sealed in the tamper evident bag supplied and sent back to the laboratory for analysis. This saves calling out scientists to perform the sample collection and reduces the cost to the customer. MSA also has a mobile system which can be called out to provide customers with rapid results for a range of drugs or explosives. The system, Scentinel®, is used at customer locations to provide analysis of premises, vehicles, clothing and other types of exhibits. Explosives Traces MSA has experience of detecting a wide range of explosives traces from aircraft boarding passes and other exhibits. Drug Batch Matching Using Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry MSA uses Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry to determine whether different samples of seized drugs are from the same batch. This is a much more specific way of matching drug batches than many other techniques, including chemical analysis. MSA’s scientists can produce reports in the form of statements and provide expert witness testimony at court. Blood Analysis MSA analyses blood samples for alcohol or drug content. GCMS (Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry) Analysis MSA provides compound identification and percentage concentration information for samples
